:I'm a tcsh kinda guy,  so bash isn't something I'm generally familiar
:with.  But the same script runs fine on a SunOS machine's version of bash,
:so I don't think it's the script ...

As far as I know there is a bug in bash 2.0, period, not just the debian
version.  I believe this was fixed in 2.00.0(1), but I could be wrong.

There was a big discussion about this a few weeks ago.
