Sendmail broken (Debian 1.3)
I just built a new Debian 1.3 system from cdrom. Lots of things are running
just fine, but somehow sendmail doesn't work. I want sendmail on this one
so I can build a beeper gateway :-) Does anybody have any clues about what
I should be looking for?
Upon startup, sendmail hangs for a couple of minutes before the sequence
finishes:
Starting mouse interface server: gpm -m /dev/psaux -t ps2.
Starting printer daemon
starting /usr/sbin/sendmail ...
Starting remote filesystem services:.
Starting additional networking services:.
Starting deferred execution scheduler: atd.
Starting periodic command scheduler: cron.
Dpkg --list gives this msg:
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge
| Status=Not/Installed/Config-files/Unpacked/Failed-config/Half-installed
|/ Err?=(none)/Hold/Reinst-required/X=both-problems (Status,Err:
uppercase=bad)
||/ Name Version Description
+++-===============-==============-============================================
ii sendmail 8.8.5-1 A complex mail transport agent.
Running sendmail -bi gets this (again after a couple of minutes):
shiloh_a# sendmail -bi
WARNING: local host name (shiloh_a) is not qualified; fix $j in config file
TIA! davew
