Assuming you have base already installed,  and that you have some
networking utilities installed and configured (that is,  a network card,
or slip/ppp ... if you can telnet or ftp manually it aught to work),  you
can point dselect at ftp.debian.org,  make sure it updates the available
package lists,  and then select the packages you want.  Resolve your
dependencies,  hit enter,  and go away for a while (install via ftp is
pretty slow over a serial link,  due to all the downloading).  Should work
fine.
