X & modprobe gone wild
help!
I upgraded some packages to the latest from unstable (replacing about 2
week old stuff) yesterday, including xbase & the fonts.
Now I have X & a modprobe out of countrol.
X is using 33-50% of cpu time when doing nothing, and I have recurring
message of
Jul 8 14:45:09 eyry modprobe: Can't locate module char-major-6
Jul 8 14:46:30 eyry modprobe: Can't locate module char-major-6
in the xconsole. ALso, I have processes that won't go away in the form
of
1336 ? S 0:00 modprobe -k -s char-major-6
1337 ? S 0:00 sh -c echo /lib/modules/boot/lp.o /lib/modules/boot/lp.o
running around. I can't kill them, either--they keep coming back.
grepping /etc/* and /etc/*/* for char-major-6 yields nothing, althoug
thare is a char-major-f in conf.modules.
The system is clsoe to unusable; how do i recover?
