Debian GNU/Linux in the German press!

The following message is a courtesy copy of an article
that has been posted as well.

Hi all,

the following is a rough translation of a short note that appeared in
the July edition (pag. 40) of the "iX Magazin", a German computer
magazine.

======================================================================
GNU-Linux 1.3

For the first time since the foundation of the Debian Project, it is
presented an official Debian-GNU/Linux distribution. The version 1.3
now presented by the Debian developers consists of a double CD-ROM. It
is based in the kernel 2.0.30 and has its own package manager. This
package manager can also install RPM packages and *.tgz archives. In
favor of the stability of Debian 1.3 is that this version corresponds
to the one that participated in the NASA shuttle-mission in March.

To ensure that the distribution is offered all over the world for a
fair price, the Debian Team put at one's disposal the master for both
CD-ROMs free via FTP. Interested parties, preferring to avoid the
download of more than 1 GByte, can order for 50 $ a set with the CDs.
These can be freely and without licensing fees replicated, since they
do not contain any commercial software. The first consequence of this
action: in JF Lehmann [ECL note: a book store? a software store?]
there is Debian GNU/Linux 1.3, including installation manual in
German, for short of 20 DM. In addition this Berlin group intends to
provide an update CD three to four times a year for about 10 DM.
