What did the trick for me:
1) change /etc/hostname then say
hostname --file /etc/hostname
2) change IP-address entry in /etc/hosts
3) rerun sendmailconfig
4) change /etc/resolv.conf if domain changed too
5) change /etc/mailname
(Did I forget something?)
No reboot is necessary.
