This seems to be due to the incompatibility of bzImage kernel images with 
the Thinkpads.  I had to resort to the 1.1 install floppies when 
installing 1.2 on a Thinkpad 560.  If you get someone to give you a 
custom zImage kernel image, then you can replace the bzImage on the disk 
(It is my understanding that MSDOG format is used on the recue disks).

Unfortunately, I do not have access to the 560 anymore.
