Do you mean that I had to set up /etc/defaultdomain and run
"/etc/init.d/nis stop" and "/etc/init.d/nis start"?
I had done this (as described in /usr/doc/nis/nis.debian.howto). This
does not seem to the problem.
It's strange, because the ypinit output says that the domain is not
set. What's the output of the command
domainname
