Ah-hah! Have you tried the ATI XL Inport busmouse driver?! If this
is correct, and you hadn't tried this, it means you should of course
have Read The Fine Hardware Compatibility Howto! IE:

 zless /usr/doc/HOWTO/Hardware-HOWTO.gz
