What I missed most, and missed on years of word processors, is the trivially easy 
manner of making compound, repeated, commands.  I know it's possible in emacs, but i've 
found no-one whom I could ask who could tell me.

It's also faster.  ANd it's everywhere.  (ok, except debian base :)
