Viewing compressed manpages with dwww works for me.  What
version are you using?  The version of dwww in rex (stable) 
is pretty old (before I was maintaining it).

dwww_1.4.1 (and dwww_1.4 - but don't use that) detects wn during
setup and configures itself appropriately.  At least it worked
here with wn_1.17.0.

Try the new dwww, and see if that works...  If it doesn't, e-mail
me and I'll try to help you set it up.
