I use a 2940UW on one system.  I'd be happy to make you either a rescue 
disk or just a kernel; I'm using 2.0.29.

I can't say it works perfectly.  First of all, I don't exercise that
particular system very much, and secondly the system has a slightly non-
standard configuration, in that it also has an Adaptec 1542 in it, and
a mixture of fast disks, a SCSI CDROM, and a Jaz drive.  I believe the
interaction of these things (along with imperfections in the kernel) has
caused the system to hang in the past, but I didn't do enough testing
to tell you which part was at fault.  I seem to have removed most of the
problems by now, by rearranging the SCSI devices til all the parts seemed
to work well enough.  Anyway, these problems might not affect you.

Anyway, let me know what you'd like (a rescue disk or just a kernel?), 
and I'll put it up on an ftp site for you.
