As I recall the boot floppies for 1.1 did have APM, and there
were big warnings in the installation guide telling you to turn it
off. I remember this clearly because I didn't turn it off,
and it crashed while booting the kernel :-) Linux doesn't like
the APM in the AMI BIOS I had at the time.
