That fixed my immediate problem. Thanks!

Most of my knowledge comes from the same sources. However, my 
understanding improved with reading the troff manuals, but they don't 
mention any of the tbl or man macros (or if they do, it's well hidden). I 
feel that I could get my hands around this problem with some more 
specific documentation of ALL the .XX commands.
