You can compile the kernel to use long file names.  This is an
experimental feature.  One problem though - it doesn't work!!
There are some major bugs in the implementation.  Basically,
it is still under development.  So you'll have to live with
short filenames until the developer of smbfs fixes it (or
someone else).
