sound drivers

Hi,

My new /dev/sndstat in debian1.1 differs from an old one I installed
myself in an old kernel (without modules). There appears to be several
drivers missing. and Midi device is not set up.

At the moment, I include sound.o in /etc/modules. Am I missing some
modules, or do I have to recompile/reconfigure the module?

How do I install these things now? I kept the /etc/soundconf file
from my old kernel installation, if that is any help.
