The US detonated about two dozen nuclear devices on Bikini Island for a
period of 10 years after WW2.  The island is still uninhabitable due to
high radiation.  There was an article in National Geographics about it
a while back.  The US is still trying to clean it up.

Both it and Kwajalein are islands in the Marshall chain, though.

The zoneinfo file does need to be cleaned up though.  There's a LOT of
meaningless duplication for example.  Most of it appears to be done
through hard links though.  I'll put it on my list of "things to do
when I have time."
