Problem with 3COM 509 and 1.1 Boot Disks

I have just been trying a 1.1 installation onto a system which contains a 
3COM509 ethernet card.  The kernel on the boot disks does not seem to 
find the card at all.

I had previously installed 0.93 and those boot disks did recognize the 
same card.

Is there an alternate kernel/boot disk for this card?  Should there be a 
special command to LILO?
