X, ttyp? hangers-on
My .xinitrc opens two xterms, so when I am running X, `who' says
something like this:
$ who
--------------------------------------
bhogan tty2 Mar 13 14:23
gonzo tty3 Mar 13 14:17
gonzo tty4 Mar 13 15:48
root tty6 Mar 13 17:55
gonzo ttyp1 Mar 13 14:18 (:0.0)
gonzo ttyp0 Mar 13 14:18 (:0.0)
---------------------------------------
However, long after I have quitted the X session, `who' still says
this; the `ttyp' lines ending in `(:0.0)' do not go away unless
`gonzo' exits (logs off).
Am I mistaken in thinking these `ttyp' entries should disappear as
soon as I quit X?
I don't remember it having been this way in the past but it is not
impossible that I simply never noticed it.
Btw, what permissions should these `ttyp' devices have in the
first place?
Why (on my setup at least) is ttyp3 chmod 600 while all the others
are chmod 666? Why does root:root own tttyp[0-4] while root:tty owns
all the others?
