x-win probe?

hi, ive installed x-win on my system, but i have stuffed up my monitor - 
my machines pretty much cobbled together, so i have no idea what my 
monitors stats are, and my guess was wrong

is ther a porbe i could use 2 figure out my systems setup?

also, how do i remove sdm from start-up?
