Re: time returns -1



Thanks Richard, and all the others who spent their time educating me on 
this matter. As a hermit, who lives in the swamp, and has only himself 
for tech support, I find the synergy of this group to be purely 
wonderful! 
I grew up in Borlands Turbo C and learned C++ as they upgraded their 
product. I suspect that some of my misunderstandings come from this 
experience. (Borland often implements features at variance with the 
standard, for protection purposes)
Pointers have always been my weak point, I suspect from the various meta 
levels of access and the sometimes confusing syntax.
My understanding has been improved by the help you all provided.

Of all the solutions provided I found:

jtime = time(&jtime);

to be the most elegant (and memory efficient)
