xdvi question

I'm running debian 0.93R6 and the tex/latex/xdvi came with it.

When I run xdvi, it keeps calling MakeTeXPK, although the .pk files
may already exist. Also, I can't see bold, and \large letters (the
\title is even smaller than the body of the \article). The print out
is fine. The following is a section of the messages I got from an
xdvi session. Any help appreciated.
