name resolve question

hi:

  I am using dynamic ppp connect to my ISP. While I can surf the net but 
I have problem regarding of name resolving or whatever. For example I can 
ping the ftp.debian.org but can't ftp to the same site with dot name 
notation.

< ping is ok > 
$ ping ftp.debian.org
