Karl Eichwalder: Perhaps some programs might add useful things to /etc/profile; after installing less I would like to see PAGER=less export PAGER I'm an avid user of less, but there are times when it's not appropriate. If you want to use terminal scroll back (or if you are using X, and you want to extract some brief bit of text so you can issue a few short commands), more is easier to deal with. -- Raul
