Installing xbase-3.1.2-2.deb

I'm trying to install the xbase & xstd-3.1.2-1.deb packages. I am
using dpkg; version 0.93.31

I've run into a few minor problems. If anyone has had any similar
experiences, or knows a few tricks for installation, I would be thankful
for any advice.

The xlib-3.1.2-1, xman-3.1.2-1 & xvga16 installed without errors, however
xbase reported some errors:

tar: Could not create symlink to console: File exists
dpkg-deb: subprocess tar returned error exit status 2
dpkg - error: xbase: failed to install (exit status 1) (skipping this package)
dpkg: 1 errors occurred.

Installation of xstd reported errors of dependency based on xbase.

Listed below is the output of an attempted reinstall of xbase, after
xlib, xman, xstd & xvga16 were installed (only xbase & xstd report
installation errors):
