Just a few questions from memory... hopefully these will put you on the right
track.

What name does the system give when you say "hostname -f"?

Is the old name on the "Cw" line of the sendmail.cf, or in any of the
rewriting rules? Do you have Costales' "Sendmail" book from O'Reilly?
Can you use "smail" instead?

Have you published an MX record in the DNS database so that your server system
will directly accept mail for the client Linux system?
