The 1.3.x kernel provides IP multicasting. This is a development kernel and
thus much more bug-prone than the stable 1.2.x kernel. You can download the
source-1.3.12 package and build it to get IP multicasting.

I haven't heard that anyone has built mbone, but with the sound card and
multicasting support it should work. If you build it, please consider becoming
a Debian package maintainer for it.
