Según esas instrucciones, tienes que editar el archivo  
«/usr/share/alsa/cards/USB-Audio.conf», localizar el siguiente bloque 
de tu tarjeta, comentar la segunda tarjeta y añadir la nueva:

# If a device does not use the first PCM device for digital data, the device
# number for the iec958 device can be changed here.
USB-Audio.pcm.iec958_device {
    # "NoiseBlaster 3000" 42
    # "USB Sound Blaster HD" 1
    "Xonar SoundCard" 2

Guarda el archivo y recarga Alsa con la orden como súperusaurio: «alsa 
force-reload». Comprueba si ya funciona y manda la salida de la orden 
«aplay -L | grep -A 2 iec958»

No es la forma ortodoxa de hacerlo, porque como incican cuando se 
actualice el paquete de las bibliotecas de Alsa sobreescribirá ese 
archivo que has editado, revirtiendo lso cambios.

Prueba y si funciona, ya vemos la forma de hacerlo sólo para tu usuario.
