Problema configuracion monitor y touchpad post-instalacion Squeeze



Buenas amigos... Les saludo nuevamente. Aunque se que hay mucha info
en la red, les pregunto para orientarme, puesto que no hallo como
comenzar. Les cuento a continuación las características de la máquina
que uso y mi problema:

HARDWARE:
Portátil Síragon Canaima NB3050
Procesador Intel Celeron M 430 1,73 GHz
RAM 512 MB
Tarjeta gráfica VIA CN700/P4M800
Pantalla LCD WXGA 1280x768
Teclado AT Chicony Español
SynPS/2 synaptics touchpad

SOFTWARE:
Debian Squeeze
Kernel Linux 2.6.32-5-686 instalado desde netinstall vía USB
El Xorg se instaló con paquetes "xserver-xorg-video-openchrome" y
"xserver-xorg-input-all"
Nombre de máquina: lapfmogollo
Nombre de usuario: fdmogollon

El PROBLEMA:
Luego de culminar la instalación del sistema base, entorno gnome
mínimo, aplicaciones seleccionadas y configurar resolución de monitor
y touchpad, el sistema funcionó perfectamente. Lo apagué. Al iniciar
(al día siguiente), la resolución del monitor es de 1600x1200 e
intento cambiarla en menu>sistema>preferencias>monitores, pero no hay
cambio.

 Además, puedo mover el puntero con el touchpad pero no responde
adecuadamente al usar el botón izquierdo bajo el mismo aunque en
menu>sistema>preferencias>raton>touchpad aparece como bien
configurado.

Intenté arreglar reinstalando los paquetes
"xserver-xorg-video-openchrome" y "xserver-xorg-input-all", e
instalando los paquetes xserver-xorg-video-vesa" y
"xserver-xorg-video-fbdev", que no lo estaban, y nada. El problema
descrito sigue sin resolverse.


PISTAS (resultado de usar varios comandos desde terminal):
