A ver si puedo orientarte un poco....
tienes que añadir tu usuario al grupo vboxusers
mira /etc/group alli debe existir.
Puedes añadirte a mano como root editando /etc/group o con el comando
correspondiente addgroup creo.
Luego reiniciar el entorno gráfico, ya que si no no se carga.

Luego no se como has instalado el virtualbox, si con un modulo
precompilado para el kernel o compilando, pero hay que cargar el módulo,
que creo no se carga automáticamente...
mira /etc/modules
