Ojo, tal y como te decía Jose L. echa un ojo a lo que tienes conectado
al otro lado de la tarjeta. Por lo que sea te está negociando mal, y
es tema tanto de la tarjeta como del switch.

Creo que le encontré el error, aunque no probé todavia si lo soluciona.
En la documentacion del kernel , en el archivo de vortex.txt
se puede leer:

the same network being in full-duplex mode, while this host is in
half-duplex mode. You need to find that other host and make it run in
half-duplex mode or fix this host to run in full-duplex mode.
As a last resort, you can force the 3c59x driver into full-duplex mode
with
options 3c59x full_duplex=1
but this has to be viewed as a workaround for broken network gear and
should only really be used for equipment which cannot autonegotiate.

Estoy usando el driver "viejo" para las 3c59x, en la pagina de 3com hay un
driver actualizado
para las 3c905B y 3c905C series.

¿ Alguien lo esta usando ?? Tiene alguna ventaja importante con el driver
standar de woody ??
