Problemas con locales y castellanizar

hola gente:
	Estoy intentando castellanizar mi debian y me he encontrado con
algunos problemas. Setee el dpkg-reconfigure locales para español y al hacer
castellanizar obtengo este mensage de error:
perl: warning: Setting locale faled.
perl: warning: Please check your locale settings:
	LANGUAGE = (unset)
	LC_ALL = "es_ES"
	LC_MESSAGES = "es_UY"
	LANG = "spanish"

Comprobando /etc/
.........

Cuando hago un man siempre obtengo este mensge de error.
(null): can't set the locale; make sure $LC_* and $LANG are correct

Esta es mi definición de locale:
