Olá Carlos,

Dê uma lida cuidadosa no arquivo /boot/grub/menu.lst e substitua o valor da opção "default" para um valor que se refira ao kernel que você quer usar e que não contenha a opção "single" na linha referente às opções do kernel.

No meu caso, o o arquivo /boot/grub/menu.lst está assim
