Isso está me parecendo um problema com os CD Roms SATA (que já deveriam estar
corrigidos no último Debian Installer).
Logo após o boot pelo CD, digite:
BOOT_DEBUG=3
Você irá cair em uma janela do shell, aí basta digitar:
echo options libata atapi_enabled=1 >> /etc/modprobe.conf
Depois digite "exit" (sem as aspas) e o processo de instalação deverá ocorrer
sem problemas (talvez seja necessário digitar exit umas duas vezes).
Teste isso para ver se funciona e relate o bug, pois isso já deveria estar
corrigido.
Só mais uma pergunta: Eu provavelmente irei instalar o Debian no meu laptop
nesse final de semana. Esse erro que você relatou ocorre antes do processo de
instalação ou só aparece depois que foi iniciado o processo de instalação
(nos fazendo perder tudo que estava no HD)?
