Gnome2 em portugues

Estou tentnado sem sucesso deixar o Gnome2 no idioma portugues, Brasil.
Alterei os arquivos :
=> /etc/environment

Mesmo com as alterações acima o Gnome2 continua em ingles. Alguem por
acaso teria alguma idéia do que esta errado ou faltando ?!?!?
