Debian num servidor Compaq ML370 problemas com DAT



Olá Pessoal,

	Instalei um Debian Woody com o bf2.4 num servidor Compaq Proliant ML370 Dual PIII 700 e foi tudo beleza, ele reconheceu o hardware
de array de discos tranquilamente, logo em seguida usei um apt-get install kernel-image-2.4.18-686-smp e ele instalou o kernel
correspondente para que fosse feito o reconhecimento dos 2 processadores, mais uma vez correu tudo bem.
	O problema está no reconhecimento da DAT SCSI, já "modprobei"(argh :)!!) o st.o , scsi_mod.o o scsi_log.o instalei o mt-st e:
	- quando executo:
mt -f /dev/st0 status  #que deveria mostrar o status do dispositivo de fita, correto?
	- ele retorna a msg.:
/dev/st0: No such device
	Demais comandos como tar cvf /dev/st0 /home
	Alguem tem alguma dica ou experiência para compartilhar? ou sabe onde estou errando?
	Resolveria se eu compilasse o kernel com tais módulos embutidos no próprio ao invés de módulos?
	Toda ajuda é bem vinda pois já tentei um monte de coisas.
