Eu já tive este mesmo problema com i=minha TNT2 M64 e o problema foi o módulo NVdriver. Eu usava o módulo da versão 2314 e funcionava blz, mas quando atualizei para o 2880, dava pau. Voltei a usar o módulo anterior e esperei sair o 2960 e funcionou bem. Uma coisa que vc poderia fazer seria, em vez de gerar os .deb compilar na mão. entra no NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-2960 e "make" e depois NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-2960 e "make";"make install". Descarrega os módulo existente "rmmod NVdriver" e carrega o novo "modprobe NVdriver". em seguida "startx". Vê se funciona. Espero ter ajudado.
