Problem beim Ändern der Bildschirmauflösung

Hallo,

ich habe gestern ein unerwartetes Problem beim Versuch die Bildschirmauflösung zu ändern
bemerkt. Ich kann wenn ich mit Strg-Alt-KP+ die Bildschirmauflösung von 1152x864 nach
1024x768 oder 800x600 ändern will keine korrekte Darstellung bekommen, stattdessen
ist ein Teil des Bildes an den Rändern abgeschnitten und wenn ich die Maus zum
Bildschirmrand hinbewege verschiebt sich der sichtbare Bildausschnitt.
Tatsächlich passiert das auch bei 1152x864, wenn ich in xorg.conf den Eintrag
"Virtual     1152 864" weglasse, nur 1280x960 wird korrekt dargestellt.
Ich habe versucht mit gtf und xtiming.pl die Modelines zu ändern, aber ohne Erfolg.
Hat jemand eine Idee, woran das liegen könnte? Im Prinzip scheint es ja zu gehen,
wenn ich im Gnome-Control-Center die Bildschirmauflösung ändere, funktioniert es,
ich will aber kein Gnome od. KDE verwenden sondern lieber bei IceWm bleiben :(
