Nachtrag:

Ich habe den USB-Stecker der Kamera probeweise abgezogen und wieder
aufgesteckt und habe jetzt:

$ lsmod | grep usb
snd_usb_audio          88736  0
snd_usb_lib            21888  1 snd_usb_audio
snd_rawmidi            31392  2 snd_usb_lib,snd_seq_midi
snd_hwdep              15240  1 snd_usb_audio
usbvideo               32772  1 quickcam_messenger
snd_pcm                89096  6
snd_usb_audio,snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss
snd                    65256  18
snd_usb_audio,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq_device,snd_hwdep,snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_timer
compat_ioctl32         13184  2 usbvideo,pwc
videodev               29696  2 usbvideo,pwc
usbhid                 45088  0

Das Modul für quickcam_messenger hatte ich inzwischen per modconf installiert,
scheint aber nicht richtig zu sein, da ich immer noch kein Bild habe.
