Hab heute nochmal die Release Notes zu etch gelesen:
http://www.de.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/release-notes/ch-whats-new.en.html#s-system-changes
"Default encoding for etch is UTF-8
...
The package utf8-migration-tool contains a tool that may help the
migration, however that package is only available in unstable as
it was not ready in time for etch. Making a backup of your data
and configuration before using the tool is strongly recommended."
