Das Problem kenne ich: Die Deutschen manpages sind nicht immer aktuell.

mach mal 

export LANG= && man grep


Drauf gekommen bin ich mal, als ich in 
de.comp.os.unix.shell (oder .apps) nach 'man less' fragte.

ESC-u findet man in der deutschen übersetzung z.B. nicht.

export LANG=de_DE@euro && man less
