Das Problem kenne ich: Die Deutschen manpages sind nicht immer aktuell.
mach mal
export LANG= && man grep
Drauf gekommen bin ich mal, als ich in
de.comp.os.unix.shell (oder .apps) nach 'man less' fragte.

| matching the current search pattern. If highlighting is
| already off because of a previous ESC-u command, turn
