DSL: PPP traffic messen

Hi,

gibt es eine 'elegante' Lösung um den traffic über PPP zu messen.
Ich habe eine Debian Box als DSL Router laufen.
Mein Tarif (GMX) ist auf 2GM/Monat beschränkt.
Ich nutze pon/poff mit Dial on demand.

Ein einfaches addieren der Werte in /var/log/messages reicht nicht, da der ppp 
deamon dort alles aufsummiert bis zum nächsten pon/poff. (s.u.)

Sicherlich eine Kleinigkeit mit PERL, aber leider ich kann kein PERL :-(

Kennt jemand ein entspreches script?
