Amilo A 7800 - und keine Sound

Ich habe mit meinem Notebook einige Probleme der Soundunterstützung.

Nach Stunden des herumprobierens habe ich den Kernel 2.4.20-pre11
installiert, weil dort die überarbeitete Unterstützung "meines" Soundchips
war. Allerdings folgt beim Versuch des Einbindens mittels modcons:

Installation ging schief.
Alsa funktioniert nicht. Wurde mit Kernelimage für Alsa selbst basteln
probiert und blieb ergebnislos.
Wer hat noch eine Idee?
