power off geht auch mit apm nicht

seit meinem ersten atx motherboard habe ich probleme mit dem automatischen ausschalten nach dem herunterfahren.
und das jetzt schon bei mehreren pcs.
ich benutze ein biostar m5ala board mit ali m1543 sowie ein msi kt3 ultra aru mit via kt333 chipsatz. beide haben neueste bios-updates.
im bios ist die power off funktion aktiviert.
im kernel 2.4.19 siehts so aus:

<*>   Advanced Power Management BIOS support
   [ ]     Ignore USER SUSPEND
   [*]     Enable PM at boot time
   [*]     Make CPU Idle calls when idle
   [*]     Enable console blanking using APM
   [*]     RTC stores time in GMT
   [*]     Allow interrupts during APM BIOS calls
   [*]     Use real mode APM BIOS call to power off

in /etc/init.d/halt hab ich schon mehreres probiert:
   1. wies normal bei debian woody da steht
   2. halt -p
   3. poweroff

aus windows heraus gehts.
aber der tux macht einfach nicht das licht hinter sich aus, verdammt!

wer kann helfen?
