This is not normal.
I'm no longer using a server with raid, but I remember experiences with software raid and mirrors of 2TB and 4TB.
This required a few hours, always less than a day, using a Core 2 duo server with sata 2. Drives were western digital green, blue and red. (I changed the drives several times).
Maybe your drives have wear and defective sectors ? Did you check their SMART status ?

avertissement: je n'ai jamais fait de raid, encore moins soft: quand je
faisais un raid sur les chocolats en fin d'année, c'était hard ;-)
il y a un article ici (lien extrait de la page RAID du wiki archlinux)
qui détaille comment augmenter la vitesse du resync et comment rendre ce
paramétrage permanent:
