Problème chargement images png...

voila j'ai un problème bizarre lorsque je lance certaines applications
(Eterm par exemple), j'ai les messages d'erreurs suivants :
Eterm: Error: Unable to load image file "tile/nebula.jpg" -- No loader
available for that file format
Eterm: Error: Unable to load image file "bar_vertical_3.png" -- No
loader available for that file format
Eterm: Error: Unable to load image file "bar_vertical_1.png" -- No
loader available for that file format
Eterm: Error: Unable to load image file "bar_vertical_2.png" -- No
loader available for that file format
Eterm: Error: Unable to load image file "thumb_1.png" -- No loader
available for that file format
Eterm: Error: Unable to load image file "thumb_2.png" -- No loader
available for that file format
Eterm: Error: Unable to load image file "button_arrow_up_1.png" -- No
loader available for that file format

après ca pédale pendant quelques minutes, et ca m'affiche un Eterm tout
lent, inutilisable...
Alors qu'est-ce que c'est le "loader" pour les png ?
J'ai bien installé les paquets suivants :
dpkg -l | grep png
ii libpng-dev 1.2.1-1.1 PNG library - development
ii libpng2 1.0.12-4 PNG library - runtime
ii libpng3 1.2.1-1.1 PNG library - runtime
voila, si quelqu'un a une idée...
