[Debian] OnStream meldet Konkurs an

Gottseidank habe ich das OnStream-Laufwerk noch nicht gekauft, andere
in dieser Mailing-Liste (Jens? Hanno?) haben da wohl Pech.

I regret to inform you (and your readers) that effective Friday March 16
OnStream, Inc. has ceased operations and filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy for
all of its business units. Thank you for the information and support you
have passed on on our products, and to the customers who bought this
groundbreaking technology.

I specifically wanted to thank your two organizations for the unbiased
support you have given our company and others for our attention to the Mac
community.

Sincerely,
Scott McClure
Product Line Manager; OnStream, Inc.

Storage vendor OnStream closed late last week, and we've since
received a letter from Edward Snelleman, who works at the
company's European offices, about attempts to keep the company
afloat. Readers, meanwhile, are wondering about support and media
issues:

[Edward Snelleman] "We would like to underline some positive
developments. At the moment, OnStream B.V. is working on a
restart of its business with new investors. Overall the sales of
OnStream products has shown a steep increase, which gives our new
investors and us a high confidence in the continuation of our
business.     "OnStream B.V. activities include the development
and production of all our high capacity tape-drives. Therefore
closure of the American OnStream organization should have minimal
effect on the supply of existing and new products. When the
restart becomes effective, it is our expectation that this
restart will be effective in a matter of weeks.

[Matt Hale] "Just wondering if you, or any of your readers, have
any info on the future of OnStream's ADR tape format. I
understand it was developed by Phillips, and I wonder if they
will be pursuing development of future generations with another
manufacturer? Also, will the tapes still be available? Obviously
the OnStream brand will disappear, but they are also made by
Verbatim. Will they continue to manufacture them? I ask because I
bought an OnStream drive less than 2 weeks ago, and was about to
move our entire facility onto it."
