[Debian]:ispell und Umlaute

Hallo,

wie kann ich ispell beibringen, mit Umlauten zurecht zu kommen? Die Option
-Tlatin1 verhindert leider, daß z. B. wenn nötig automatisch der TeX-Modus
gewählt wird.
