On my work machine I alwasy switch twice a day.
When I arrive: "loadkeys us" to get the US layout and when I
leave "loadkeys de" to get the german layout.
If you're using Emacs you don't need to change the kbd layout.
Just activeate the iso-accents-mode (M-x iso-accents-mode)
and type "a, "u etc, like in gLaTeX.
