You can even do it in completly opposite direction:

Find in dmesg which device is a cdrom drive
 hdc: SAMSUNG CD-ROM SC-148F, ATAPI CDROM drive
and make a link
 rm /dev/cdrom
 ln -s /dev/hdc /dev/cdrom
